Looking after your honeycomb blinds

Regular cleaning of these blinds is important to keep peak functionality, to extend their lifespan and to keep them looking good. It is important to get into all those crannies so grime and dust do not build up in certain places. Here are some things to think about when it comes to the maintenance of your cellular blinds.

1. Taking care of dust – On a regular schedule wipe away the dust that builds using either a dry microfiber cloth or a duster. You can work the blinds side to side to loosen anything in them and work your way down as you clean. For any dust that is stubborn and not shifting you can try a vacuum cleaner fitted with its brush attachment. Go through the same motions and actions as you did with the duster but now use the vacuum brush. Make sure you keep the cleaner at a low suction level so it does not damage the honeycomb blinds or cause them to become disfigured. You can also use a cloth that is damp with warm water and gentle soap to clean the fittings and track of dust. Just make sure they are properly dried.
2. Unsticking trapped particles and debris – With the nature of the blinds it is normal to have some particles that get stuck or even to have bugs get trapped in the cells. You can clean them out with a can of compressed air, just be sure to have a cloth at the end so you catch what you blow out. A hairdryer might also work but avoid using hot air.
3. Apply spot cleaning as needed – If there are stains on your honeycomb blinds you might need to apply spot cleaning. It is not a good idea to take this type of blind and completely submerge them in water. It could destroy parts of them and warp them. Just take that cloth with warm water and mild soap and dab at those stained areas. Use a dabbing action, not a forceful rubbing.
4. Dealing with mold – If you have seen signs of mold in the cells you can take care of that with a solution of one part water and one part white vinegar. Once you have cleaned with that put them in the sun to dry and that will get rid of it.
